Cadet Cadre Applicant Information

Listed below are the timelines and instructions for applying for Mississippi Wing Encampment Cadet Cadre. Please note that there are 3 application periods, depending upon which position(s) a cadet is considering. Please check the “Positions Open” List to ensure you are applying during the correct application period. Applications will NOT be accepted before OR after the application period. The appropriate “Application Memorandum” will list full instructions on how to apply. Several useful links can be found below which may assist you in the application process. Please be sure to check the participation requirements, as those selected will be required to complete all required tasks/courses within the listed time frame. 2024 Application Timelines & Instructions

Cadet Executive Cadre: Phase 1

  • Open Positions: Cadet Commander, Cadet Deputy Commander for Operations, Cadet Deputy Commander for Support, Cadet Deputy of Advance Training

  • Phase 1 Duty Position Descriptions & Attributes

  • Application Period: 5-12 September 2023

  • Application Process: please email your resume and letter of intent to dcp@mswg.cap.gov and jessica.dixon@mswg.cap.gov. Resumes should be formatted as described in CAP Learn to Lead Volume 2, pages 176-178. The letters of intent should include the position desired, the individual's qualifications, and a statement indicating why that individual should be selected for the desired position.

  • Interviews: TBD after the application period closes. 

  • Please, review the Cadet Executive Cadre Duty Positions Descriptions & Attributes and verify you are ready to learn, develop, and excel at the position.

Cadet Squadron Officers, Command Chief, & Support Officers: Phase 2

  • Typical Positions: Squadron Commander, Command Chief, Curriculum and Plans Officer, Standards and Evaluations OIC, Logistics/General Support OIC

  • Phase 2 Duty Positions Descriptions & Attributes (not updated for the 2024 MSWG Encampment)

  • Application Period: late fall or early winter 2023

  • Interviews: TBD after the application period closes.

  • Please, review the Cadet Squadron Officer, Command Chief, and Support Officer Positions Descriptions & Attributes and verify you are ready to learn, develop, and excel at the position.

Support Officer, Cadet Line & Support Cadre: Phase 3

  • Typical Positions: Flight Commander, Health Services OIC, ES Training Officer, First Sergeant, Flight Sergeant, Health Services Cadre, Logistics/Color Guard Cadre, General Support Cadre, Food Services Cadre, Public Affairs OIC & Cadre, and Standards and Evaluations OIC & Cadre

  • Phase 3 Duty Positions Descriptions & Attributes (not updated for the 2024 MSWG Encampment)

  • Application Period: late winter 2023 or early spring 2024

  • Interviews: TBD and conditional based on position and cadet

  • Please, review Cadet Line and Support Cadre Positions Descriptions & Attributes and verify you are ready to learn, develop, and excel at the position.

Auxiliary Officers: Phase 4

  • Auxiliary Officers: Cadet officers with encampment or leadership experience who are willing and able to step into a variety of positions. 

  • Application Period: Might open early summer 2024


Application & Required Form/Course Instructions

Below are step-by-step instructions for completing all required items for the Mississippi Wing Encampment. The first 2 steps must be completed as part of the application process, and the remaining steps must be completed after acceptance to cadre. Please READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS before completing an application. 

Step 1 Registration Form: The registration form is the first step in securing a position at Encampment. Those serving on cadet cadre should select complete this Google Form. All applicants should get an e-mailed copy of their form upon submission. Please keep a copy for your records.

Step 2 Supplemental Information: Cadet Cadre Applicants must upload their resume and letter of intent to the MSWG Encampment Dropbox before the application period closes. Resumes should be formatted as described in CAP Learn to Lead Volume 2, pages 176-178. The letters of intent should include the position desired, the individual's qualifications, and a statement indicating why that individual should be selected for the desired position. Please, upload your resume using this naming convention: Applicant Last Name, Applicant First Name, Resume 

Step 3 Required Forms: Upload the following groups of forms to the MSWG Encampment Dropbox.

Application

- Application for Encampment
(CAPF 60-81, 2 pages, signed by all parents/legal guardians)
- Camp Shelby Release Form
(1 page, signed by parent/guardian if the applicant is under 18 years old)
- Cadet Photo Release Form
(1 page, signed by parent/guardian if the applicant is under 18 years old)

Aviation

- Air Transportation Agreement
(DD Form 1381, 1 page, signed by a parent/legal guardian if the applicant is under 18 years old and witnessed)

Medical

- CAP Member Health History Form
(CAPF 160, 2 pages, signed by parent/guardian if the applicant is under 18 years old)
- Emergency Information
(CAPF 161, 1 page, signed by parent/guardian if the applicant is under 18 years old)
- Permission for Provision of Minor Cadet Over-The-Counter Medication
(CAPF 163, 1 page, signed by parent/guardian and required if the applicant is under 18 years old)
- Copy of applicant’s Insurance Card
(copy of the front and back, if applicable)
- Asthma Action Form
(if asthmatic)

Please, upload the Application forms, Aviation form, and Medical forms in three separate groups using this naming convention:
        Applicant Last Name, Applicant First Name, Group Name
        Example 1) Smith, Jane, Application
        Example 2) Smith, Jane, Aviation
        Example 3) Smith, Jane, Medical

These forms may be submitted AFTER acceptance to Mississippi Wing Encampment cadre, but NLT 1 June 2024. Questions on how to complete these forms can be addressed to encampment@mswg.cap.gov

Step 4 Required Courses: Mississippi Wing Cadet Cadre members must have completed Cadet Protection Course Basic (if over age 18), Basic Risk Management, and I-CUT. These courses can be completed in E-Services. These courses may be submitted AFTER acceptance to Mississippi Wing Encampment cadre, but NLT 10 June 2024.  Questions on how to complete these courses can be addressed to encampment@mswg.cap.gov.
