In Civil Air Patrol, we call our meeting locations/groups "units" or "squadrons".
Our squadrons are classified as Cadet, Senior, Composite, or Flight, each offering unique opportunities to make a difference.
Cadet Squadrons focus on inspiring the next generation of leaders through CAP’s Cadet Programs. These units dedicate themselves to developing young people (cadets) into capable, civic-minded innovators in engineering and cyber fields, inspire them to become pilots, and provide opportunities for them to explore ways to serve in the US Military. Cadet Squadrons also train for and play a vital role in supporting Emergency Services and K-12 Aerospace Education, helping build a brighter future for our communities.
Senior (Adult) Squadrons are dedicated to lifesaving missions through Emergency Services. Members gain advanced training to conduct missing-person searches, respond to disasters, and provide vital aerial imagery for emergency agencies. In addition to their core responsibilities, Senior Squadrons can actively champion K-12 Aerospace Education and Cadet Programs, mentoring youth and fostering a passion for service, innovation, and leadership across all ages.
Composite Squadrons unite the strengths of both Cadet and Senior Squadrons, working together to inspire youth, serve communities, and lead by example. By combining these efforts, Composite Squadrons offer great opportunities to meet community needs.
Flights are the start of new squadrons and develop into Cadet, Senior, or Composite Squadrons.
